Le Parfum de Thérèse the review

I had never tested Frédéric Malle fragrances before so when I heard that they were sending samples so some people I quickly filled out my information. I was then recommended the following three fragrances by Tiphaine (the person in charge of mailing out either the generous 5 ml samples or the dreaded cards): Le Parfum de Thérèse, Un Rose and Noir Epices. Me being the lucky person that I am of course got the dreaded cards which all blended into one big fragrance in the envelope.

Tiphaine did include a lovely note:
Thank you for your interest in our Editions de Parfumes. Please find herewith the scented cards of the exclusive fragrances we recommend you. Best regards, tipaine

She signed her name with a lowercase "T" and underlined it as a statement of course because that's what you do when you send the cards to someone. She also crossed out the "R" in Frederic Malle on top of the stationary because I believe she was bored while determining who got samples and who got cards.

Anyhow, since I was unable to really smell the three fragrances as they mushed into one fragrance orgy my curiosity remained until now!

I finally snagged a sample to Le Parfum de Thérèse! According to the website, this was composed over fifty years ago by Edmond Roudnitska who was one of the biggest perfumers of his time. Le Parfum de Thérèse was created for his wife Thérèse and was not released to the public until after his death.

The notes in Le Parfum de Thérèse are: Mandarin, Melon, Jasmine, Pepper, Violet, Rose, Plum, Nutmeg, Cedar, Vetiver, Leather.

As soon as I applied it on my skin I could smell the melon right away. I don't like melon and I was ready to write this one off, however after a few seconds the melon is hidden by the jasmine and very subtle mandarin. I can smell a faint mixture of light pepper, violet and a mature rose. The leather to me is very light and I can't smell any plum, cedar or vetiver at all.

While I think this would smell wonderful year round I think it would be best worn in spring or summer months and could easily be a day to night fragrance. I'm a bit undecided on this fragrance because of the melon - while it is subtle, it's still evident.

If this ever gets back to Tiphaine, I want her to note that this smells nothing like the card she scent. Then again the cards did morph into this fragrance orgy in an envelope. Perhaps I can mail the envelope back to her and ask if that scent can be replicated!

Le Parfum de Thérèse retails for $160/3.4 oz. at Barneys New York

Comments:
Hi Beautiful Neela,

I'm so glad you're back! I hope you had a beautiful birthday! I think I'd like Le Parfum De Therese a lot more if not for the melon - it seems it's the only thing I can focus on!
