Grand Amour

Because I'm wearing A La Nuit yet again I decided to test a fragrance that I've not yet worn. Annick Goutal's Grand Amour.

Described on her website as:

Sensual, feminine, sophisticated

This intriguing, captivating scent unfolds with each passing hour. A perfect balance of carnal flowers, lily, hyacinth, honeysuckle.
A hymn of sensuality with notes of amber, musk, myrtle. A perfume of rare subtlety.

Sephora lists the notes as: Lily, Honeysuckle, Hyacinth, Turkish Rose, Jasmine, Mimosa, Amber, Vanilla, Myrrh.

This subtle white flower bouquet is both lily and honeysuckle heavy. This is what I'd expect vintage dusting powder to smell like. As it dries down there is an intense smokiness that takes over the fragrance. It also made me sneeze like crazy! It doesn't disguise the bouquet but it doesn't make it smell any better either.

I think a major mistake was made in adding the smokiness to this fragrance because it started off as a really lovely fragrance but the smoke is far too heavy for the rest of the notes.

I think this would be lovely worn as a year round, as a morning to evening fragrance.

It retails for $95/3.3 oz and is available wherever Annick Goutal is sold and through Sephora.

Comments:
*carnal flowers* do you think they mean jasmine?

Hi Sand,

The AG fragrances do not work well with my chemistry. The only one I seemed to like, even a bit, was the Sables.

SL A la Nuit, on the other hand, is one of my alltime favorites. Have you tried Diptique Olene? Some women think it smells like A La Nuit. I can see why they think that, although Olene has narstussium.
besos,

M,

It has jasmine in it but I couldn't detect it - it's more honeysuckle than anything else.

B,

I've never tried Diptique Olene. I just adore A La Nuit - I'd never taken much to jasmine before but it made me appreciate it even more!
