Best of 2005

I won't deny that I spent far too much on fragrances this year. My new year's resolution for 2005 was to not purchase any fragrances unsniffed which was clearly broken early on! Ah, no matter!

Here are the gems that I discovered this year:

Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis
Starts off with bold cedar and dries down to pure heaven, it's the blackberries that draw me in.

Serge Lutens Chergui
Who knew leather could smell both sexy and sweet at once?

Serge Lutens A La Nuit
This was my choice as signature spring of 2005 fragrance but I wore it all year long. This is what turned me onto jasmine.

Sali Oguri Pink Manhattan
Even better than the fragrances that inspired it. More fruity than floral with just the perfect touch of sweetness - Summer in a bottle!

The Different Company Jasmin de Nuit
A subtle spiced jasmine that is amazing in both warm and cold weather.

Yves Saint Laurent Roses Enchantees
A green fragrance with roses that forever changed my opinion on lily of the valley. Can't wait for the weather to warm up just to wear this one again!

L'Artisan Extrait De Songe
Subtle hay fragrance with hints of wood and musk, very unique and different from other fragrances on the market. *discontinued*

Les Parfums de Rosine's Un Zeste de Rose
Fresh and light rose that even non rose lovers would love. Makes even the hottest days seem bearable.

People Of The Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo creme
I think I may love this even more than the fragrance itself. A lot more incense than in either the EDT or Parfum. The scent lasts all day and then some.

Serge Lutens Bois de Violette
Oh my, cedar and violet - such a sexy combination! By far the best violet fragrance on the market in my humble opinion. Just amazing!

Regina Harris Original
Incense and roses, that's all I need in life! Incredible in cold weather and smells better as the day goes on.

Rosine Rose D'argent
Makes me question why I previously dismissed fragrances with anise. Another uniquely beautiful spiced rose. *discontinued*

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir
Fruits and woods have never been so good together, the pine in here just melts my heart.

Lancome 2000 et Une Rose
It's no wonder why this is such a coveted fragrance a bold, beautiful rose bouquet, lightly spiced with hints of citrus and vanilla. Truly worth all the hype and more! *discontinued*

Keiko Mecheri Peau de Peche
This subtly spiced and earthy peach fragrance is as comfortable as a thick, warm blanket.

Beautiful lists by beautiful people!

    Comments:
I see some favorites here, woohoo!
I am so upset Chergui did not work on me. I mean it sounds like it should be perfect for me,but it isn't :-( I am not even going to mention my POTL fiasco again :-D

Definitely agree on many of these. So many that should be in the best of, writers cramp keeps them out. :) Where do you get the Sali Oguri? That sounds really nice, and I like to think spring is a heartbeat away. :)

    Happy New Year!

S, we have more fragrance loves in common than I thought! Great list of fragrances. Drat it all, I'm just going to have to buy that POTL cream eventually.

By the way, 2000 et une rose is not discontinued, you can still buy it at the Lancome Institute in Paris. It ain't cheap though, and they won't ship it :-(

I love your list. It has your personality all over it! Ah, Bois de Paradis...

Thank you so much for keeping up your blog. It's always fun to stop by in the morning when I have my coffee."Oh, yes, need a pick me up, let's visit Sand..."

May you win a Hello Kitty Fender Stratocaster in some as-yet-unannounced contest in 2006, and may you become a rock star. Oh wait, you're already a rock star.

    Happy New Year!

I am so glad that you finally got the 2000 et une Rose. I love when people fall in love with this scent.

I love Bois de Paradis so much. It is one of my favorites that I do not own. I am very lucky to have a decant! Waves to V!

Another Pottle cream rave. You all are trying to kill me.

Have a wonderful New Year S! I 2nd what Tbone said. I hope you win lots of wonderful things, have your dreams come true and visit NYC so I can finally meet you!
    Hugs!

lots of roseness in this great list ... and don't be discouraged about discontinued ... it just makes them that much more appealing. Happy New Year, S! xoxo

what a great list you have! i so wish i could wear the POTL cream, and Chergui is my next "must try" from Serge. i'm quite impressed that The Different Company's jasmine made it on the same list as A La Nuit, as well!

have a fantastic new year, and enjoy the next year of scents ;)

Great List! I just tried the POTL cream yesterday at Lucky Scent's new Scent Bar in LA. You are right, I think it's better than the fragrance.

And I love Peau de Peche, I'm quite a Keiko Mecheri fan.

Best Wishes for a beautifully scented New Year!

I wish I could have shoe-horned BdP into my list somehow! Your list is awesome! Not that I expected otherwise :~D And now I'm *really* lemming some POTL cream...

    Happy New Year!!!

Wonderful, wonderful list, dear S! I am happy to see Rose d'Argent on your list, and of course, I am so sad that it is discontinued. It is hands down a favourite from the line. Perhaps, they will bring it back, as the rep keeps telling me that they might.

    Happy New Year!

We're not scent twins, but who cares. I love your list.

I love Pink Manhattan and Peau de Peche (well, I like most peach scents in general-or I at least have to give them a try).

Happy New Year!! I'm looking forward to trying the Bois de Paradis.

Shoot, I forgot about Sali's. Drat. So glad you remembered to mention it. Between you and mireille, the Chergui has shot up near the top of my list of SLs to try next.

How could I have forgotten Pink Manhattan? Thanks so much for reminding me that this was a favorite discovery of mine this year as well, made even more wonderful by the fact that I "know" the creator.

I'm going to have to try that TDC Jasmin and the JM Pomegranate Noir was a fabulous release this year too. Great list!

jwhBeauty and style coupled with a sweet fragrance can make most men stop and stare at their anonymous encounter. Today perfumes are considered to be the most luxurious and sensuous body fragrance products that create a magical touch.

The history of perfume oils dates back to ancient Egypt when these fine scented oils were presented to royalty as gifts. In modern times, however, when the word "perfume" is said, most people think of department store fragrances, which consist mainly of the concentrated oil and alcohol solution. Nevertheless, as more and more people are finding out about them, perfume oils are experiencing great popularity. Here are some interesting facts about perfume oils:

Ah….the sweet, smell of perfume! Today's market is flooded with hundreds and hundreds of different fragrances ranging

from floral to woodsy. Most women love the smell of perfume, wearing it even when going to the grocery store. The problem

is that perfume allergy for some women, is anything but nice.
